One of my new favourites from Joan Osborne. Thanks Naila! ![]()
It’s one of 11 lustrous tracks of her new album, Little Wild One, and the country-soul paean, with its references to neighborhoods such as Chelsea, Red Hook and Morningside Heights, is a redemptive reclaiming of the city in all its teeming heartache and vibrance. Osborne, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, has lived in New York for more than 20 years and the album is definitely place-specific, born of a renewed gratitude for its offerings post-9-11, and inspired by poets Walt Whitman and Allen Ginsberg, who often referenced the city as a place of soul.
